Summer Camp at Resica Falls

Summer camp at Resica Falls in the Poconos is a highlight of our Scout year. We had a great time in 2024, and will in 2025 too. It brings swimming, boating, archery, crafts, riflery, fishing, merit badges, and more. You can see pictures of our 2024 Summer Camp in our on-line photo album.

We depart on July 27 and get home on Aug. 2. The full price is $645 for youth, but you save $30 if you provide a $50 deposit, at our January 13 meeting, and an additional $150 by our March 24 meeting. The final payment of $415 will be due on May 5.

Parents' Meeting to Discuss Details on June 9

We'll be holding a meeting to go over all the details about camp with the Scouts and their parents at 7:30 PM on Monday June 9. That's the Monday before our closing campfire, and before our Summer Monday programs will start.

PLC Meeting to Prepare for Camp on June 16

We'll be holding a Junior Leader's meeting on June 16 to go over leadership responsibilities for getting ready for camp, and for while we're at camp. We'll also decide what afternoon activities we want to schedule at camp. The SPL, Patrol Leaders, Troop Guides, Scribe and Quartermaster should all attend this meeting. Their responsibilities are described in this document:

Provide Medical Information by July 7

Every participant needs to have at least two and possibly as many as four medical forms completed to go to camp. Please provide hard copies of the forms, Scout leaders are not permitted to hold soft copies of medical information. Here's the list:
  • Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A, B & C are required for all participants)
All summer camp participants, both youth and adult, are required to complete this form annually. That includes the "Part C" portion completed by a physician. There are a number of common mistakes that you should avoid when completing this form:
    • Make sure the Scout and a parent have both signed Part A
    • Make sure a parent has signed part B2
    • Make sure copies of both sides of the insurance card are attached to part B
    • Make sure the immunizaton record in part B2 is complete or a separate immunization record is attached.
    • Make sure the date of the teatnaus shot is less than 10 years old.
    • Make sure a physician has signed and dated part C
There are a set of FAQs pertaining to this form on the BSA Web site.
  • Summer Camp Drug Administration Form (Required for all youth)
Parents of scouts going to camp must fill out and sign this form. It gives the camp medical staff permission to administer over the counter medications to your child. It also provides instructions for administration of any prescription medications the scout needs to bring to camp.
  • Allergy Action Plan Form (Required if you have allergy concerns)
If you have severe allergies that might require emergency action, please submit a copy of this allergy action plan with your medical form.
  • RFSR Dietary Information Disclosure (Required if you have dietary restrictions)
Campers and adult leaders with dietary restrictions can note their individual restrictions with the camp’s food service manager before they come to camp via the form below. We are more than happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions to ensure that campers and leaders have the best dining experience possible.
  • Medical Storage Release Form (For adults only)
Adults who wish to retain their own medications, rather than have them administered by the camp staff, must complete and sign this release.

Tent Pairings by July 14

The tents at Resica Falls hold two people, and a cluster of two person tents surrounding a dining fly will be assigned to each Patrol to use as their Patrol's area. Patrol Leaders (PL) and Troop Guides (TG) are required to consult with their patrol members and work out arrangements for who will share a tent with who. Here are some rules they must follow while doing that:
  • Scouts must tent in their Patrol's area with another Scout from their same Patrol. (adults tent with adults)
  • Scouts sharing a tent may not be more than two years apart in age
  • If a patrol has an odd number of people, the PL or a TG may arrange to share a tent with a PL or TG from another patrol. In that case, their tent will be the one that's on the line between the two patrol areas.
  • PLs and TGs are responsible to consult their Scouts and work out tent pairings for the Patrol that are acceptable to everyone.
  • Once the Patrol's list of tent pairs is complete, PLs and TGs must get back to the individual members, get a reply to confirm that each member knows who they're tenting with and is OK with it. If arrangements can't be made that please everyone, then the PL or TG must consult the Scoutmaster. All this interaction must take place before the list is final.
  • PLs and TGs must give their Patrol's final list of tent pairings to the SPL by July 14
  • If your PL or TG hasn't discussed who you're tenting with you by July 7, have your parent contact the Scoutmaster.

Arrange Transportation To/From Camp by July 21

Transportation to and from camp is being coordinated by the Scoutmaster. Please advise him of all carpooling arrangements or ability to transport foot lockers in addition to Scouts. Please keep the following transportation related facts in mind:
  • Transportation of Scouts both ways will be accomplished by Scout Leaders and parents
  • Space for parking and unloading cars is very limited so car-pooling is necessary
  • Parents are encouraged to get together with other parents to arrange car-pooling. For example parents may agree that one of the parents transport 2 or 3 Scouts to camp and another of the parents transport the same Scouts back again
  • Once you've worked out a car-pool, please let The Scoutmaster know the details
  • Keep in mind that Scouts will have foot lockers and other gear that will require space in the vehicle
  • If you have a van, pick up, or other means of transporting extra foot lockers, please coordinate with the Scoutmaster
  • It's our objective to have the Scout transportation roster completed by July 21
Drivers transporting scouts home from camp on August 2 are requested to to be at camp no later than 9:00 AM and advise the Scoutmaster if anything happens that would delay arrival at camp. Those drivers should also check in with the Scoutmaster upon their arrival at camp, and check Scouts out of camp with the Scoutmaster before departure.

Get Everything Packed by July 26

By the day before we leave, everyone shouuld be packed and ready as follows:
  • Medical paperwork listed above turned in
  • Merit badge request form submitted
  • Who you'll be tenting with confirmed by your Patrol Leader or Guide
  • You know where your parents will be so we can reach them in case of emergency
  • Your Patrol has arranged a backpack, canteens, mess kits, vittles kits, and bungee cords for on our outpost hike. Patrol leaders are expected to organize this by working with the quartermasters ahead of time. New Scouts should not be expected to buy any of these items for camp
  • Your Class A uniform; Scout Shirt, Troop Neckerchief, Scout Pants (shorts preferred), Scout Belt, and Scout Socks, is complete and ready to wear on Sunday morning
  • If you're bringing any medication, it's in a zip lock bag with your name and Troop 541 clearly marked on it and ready to turn in at the church

Leave For Camp at 8:30 AM on July 27

Be at the church ready to go on Sunday July 27 at 8:30 PM, don't forget the following:
  • Be sure you're in your complete Class A summer uniform (Scout Shirt, Troop Neckerchief, Scout Shorts, Scout Belt, and Scout Socks). If you don't have Scout Shorts you may wear long Scout Pants, but this is undesirable.
  • If you're bringing any medication, prescription or non-prescription, make sure it's in a zip lock bag with your name and Troop 541 clearly marked on it. This bag must be turned in upon arrival at the church. Scouts may not have pills or medications in your posession at camp. The only exceptions are insulin, asthma inhalers, and EPI pens for those who need them. Adults may retain their own medications, but must provide a signed release to the camp office in order to do so.
  • Bring an extra key for your lock, or a copy of the combination to turn in at the church before departure
  • Bring a brown bag lunch. The first meal we'll get at camp will be Sunday's dinner.

Going Home on Saturday, August 2

We depart from camp on Saturday, August 2
Drivers are requested to arrive at Resica no later than 9:30 AM
  • The adults who have been in camp all week will be anxious to head home by then and don't want to wait for late drivers
  • Allow time for heavy traffic in the Marshall's Creek area
  • All scouts and drivers will be expected to remain at the camp until we are sure the necessary vehicles have arrived to get everyone home
When the drivers are all there and tear down and cleanup has been completed, the entire troop will be cleared to go and dismissed by the Scoutmaster Do not expect to take your Scout home from camp until the entire troop is released
