Sailing on Our May Campout

Our trip from May 16 to 18 will take us to Rodney Scout Reservation in Maryland where we'll focus on "Leave No Trace" camping. Both Scouts working toward First Class and those working toward their Scout rank will try to finish any remaining outdoor requirements so the badges will be completed in time for our June awards campfire. The younger group will also work on fire building as a step toward higher ranks.

The main activity will be sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. Our leaders will bring two sail-boats, and Scouts will go to the waterfront in groups for their turn to use them. Scouts will do other activities when not on the boats.

We'll depart from the Church at 6:30 Friday evening May 16 and get home in the early after-noon on Sunday. The $35 fee is due at our April 28 meeting.

As always meal planning and cooking will be done by the patrols. Here's the planning schedule for this trip:

  • April 21: Menu packets distributed. Patrols assign Grubmasters and begin discussing what they want to eat.
  • April 28: Patrols agree on what they want to eat and complete step 1 of the packet. Grubmasters take packets home and complete steps 2a by fleshing out the menu and step 2b by filling out the nutrition table.
  • May 5: Patrols and ASPL approve menus and nutrition requirements, Grubmasters take home food boxes, complete step 3 by inventorying them, and complete step 4 by making their shopping lists.
  • May 12: Final shopping list approved by Patrols and ASPL, checks issued to Grubmasters, Grubmasters take coolers home and purchase food.

Every Scout must bring a copy of this BSA permission slip signed by a parent. Scouts who are bringing medications with them must also give them to an adult leader in their original container along with a copy of this Medication Administration Form signed by a parent.
